Coolmine drowning tragedy: A 10 year old Blakestown boy was the victim of a tragic drowning accident at Coolmine Sports Complex. Peter Whelan from Whitestown Avenue, a pupil in Scoil Mhuire National School, was enjoying a Saturday afternoon swim in the Centre’s pool with his older brother and friends when the tragedy occurred.
Public meeting discusses community policing : Over 100 representatives of local community groups and residents’ associations from all parts of Dublin 15 attended a public meeting in Tyrrelstown this week to meet senior officers and community gardaí from Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Crosscare Clinic opens in Blanchardstown : A Crosscare information clinic has opened at Main Street, Blanchardstown, at the location which previously was home to the oratory for the Capuchin order. Crosscare is an organisation which works to address the lack of information, poverty and exclusion among many groups in society.

Phibblestown schools now enrolling pupils : Co. Dublin VEC have certainly hit the ground running since it was announced that they were to establish a number of new schools in Dublin 15 including, for the first time in this country, new primary schools.

€3.9m approved for local road works: Fingal County Council has adopted a programme of transportation works for the coming years with an estimated cost of €3.9m. The programme included works to improve local roads and footpaths as well as providing new pedestrian crossings and traffic calming schemes in the area.

   
  Sickle cell disease seminar in Blakestown: One of the less well-publicised aspects of the growth of Ireland’s multi-cultural population has been the issue of some new conditions and illnesses for the medical services to deal with. One of these is the so-called sickle cell disease, an inherited condition that is most common among people whose ancestors come from Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin and India.
