 Coolmine start the year in style with away win: In the team’s opening game of the new year, Coolmine began 2008 with a hard fought win away against Edenderry, scoring three tries in a 15-10 victory.



 
Coolmine dig out victory in difficult conditions: A tenacious Kilkenny side made Coolmine work hard for this home victory at Ashbrook, a single try in the first half deciding the outcome.


St.Brigid’s Minors take Leinster Title : In the recent Leinster minor final, St.Brigid’s minors attempted to emulate the achievements of the club’s seniors in 2003 in being crowned provincial champions. It was a game made for a one-point margin with St.Brigid’s emerging victorious over Ashbourne after an afternoon of swaying fortunes.


St.Brigid’s Boxing Club Funding: Minister Brian Lenihan called into St.Brigid’s Community Centre last week to present a cheque for €5,000 to the local St.Brigid’s Amateur Boxing club.


Sutherland retains National Championship: Local boxer Darren Sutherland produced a couple of brilliant performances recently to retain his national boxing title and rekindle his chances of going to the Olympic Games in Beijing later in the year.


Kilkenny’s loss is Fingal’s gain : The recent announcement of the financial difficulties of Kilkenny City and that club’s decision to stand down from League of Ireland soccer has opened the way for Sporting Fingal to take its place in Division One of the League of Ireland.


John Twomey – still defending his patch: The recently appointed Chief Superintendent at Blanchardstown can lay claim to a bit of sporting fame. The man in question is John Twomey and he is the only man to captain the Dublin senior hurling team in a Leinster hurling final since the county’s last provincial victory back in 1961.
