Where
it all started :Going
back to visit your old school can sometimes bring feelings of trepidation
but for two past pupils of St. Francis Xavier school in Roselawn, their
recent visit to their alma mater was a triumphant return in every sense.

heritage programme : Although
it has only been in operation since last year, the Dublin 15 based Southwest
Fingal Heritage Society continues to go from strength to strength with
an extensive calendar of events planned for the summer months.

Dublin’s
first moonwalk :You don’t have to travel
400,000 kilometres across space to walk on the moon this month. St Francis
Hospice is organising an imaginative evening for its first hospice midsummer
moon (lit) walk along the edge of Dublin Bay on Saturday 19th June.

Third
Green Flag for Huntstown : May
13th was a green letter day for the Sacred Heart of Jesus National School
in Huntstown when the Mayor of Fingal presented the school with its
third green flag in recognition of the school’s work in the conservation
of water.

Another
rub of the green for Corduff : Earlier
this year at a green action day in the school, the children of St. Patrick’s
junior school in Corduff were “tipped off” that they were
being recommended for a third green flag for their school.

President’s
awards at Riversdale: The
President's Award is a scheme set up by the President to acknowledge
exceptional achievement by young people between 15 and 25 years. Split
up into gold, silver and bronze awards, the fact that only 50 people
nationally receive the top award every year shows how demanding they
are.

Youth
Citizenship Awards: The
large number of Dublin 15 youth groups honoured at the recent Foróige
Youth Citizenship Awards held in the City West Hotel was testament to
the vibrant state of community activism among the young people of the
area.

to make a profit from a paperclip: It
was an intriguing business challenge that the transition year students
of Riversdale Community College were set.

Making
batteries with lemons: Blanchardstown
Library was the venue for some of the most exciting workshops for primary
school children ever seen in Dublin 15. Pupils from eight local schools
attended the library to take part in a series of 15 sustainable energy
workshops organised by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI).
