cutbacks at Connolly :
The future of Connolly Hospital has emerged as a major issue
in the current by-election campaign and following a large protest meeting
in the grounds of the hospital last month a new organisation – Defend
Connolly Hospital Campaign – has been launched by hospital staff,
former patients and members of the local community.

Too
many schools being built say local principals : Having been
heavily criticised some years ago for failing to meet the demand for primary
school places in the Dublin 15 area, the Department of Education is now
facing further criticism for building too many new schools when the demand
for places is far less than they are suggesting.

Council
sells waste service to Panda : November 1st will mark the end
of an era for local authority services in Fingal. For the first time in
living memory, the county council will no longer collect waste from householders
in the county. |

New
hospital department opened by Minister : Minister for Health
Dr. James O’Reilly TD was the guest recently at Connolly Hospital
where he officially open the hospital’s (reasonably) new Endoscopy
Department. The department, which has been in operation since last year,
will be able to handle 8,500 procedures each year when it is fully up and
running. |

rewards local excellence : The efforts and achievements
of local companies were recognised recently at the 2011 D15 Chamber Business
& Community Awards held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Blanchardstown.

Local refuge wins housing award :
Viva House, the Dublin 15 women’s refuge located beside Tractamotors
on the old Navan Road was the recent winner of a national community housing
award in the Homeless Services category of this year’s Irish Council
for Social Housing’s (ICSH) Community Housing awards.

Spelling
mistakes at the Phoenix Park : The
closure of a large section of Chesterfield Avenue for the reconstruction
of the roadway has been a source of major traffic disruption and inconvenience
for local commuters in recent weeks.

The
next station is…Navan Road Parkway: As
reported in last month’s Community Voice, Iarnród Éireann
finally bowed to customer pressure and decided to rename the Phoenix Park
railway station on the Navan Road.
